Policemen wait outside the south Mumbai apartment of ADGP RK Sahay
Mumbai:
The Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra, RK Sahay, yesterday tried to commit suicide by setting himself ablaze at his south Mumbai apartment, the police has said. He has received 55-65 per cent burn injuries and is critical, said doctors at the Bombay Hospital, where he was admitted by his wife and daughter last night.
"There are many flame burns, around 55-65 per cent, with the large component of inhalational burns which happens because of inhaling the smoke in closed space. There are a lot of facial burns and breathing passage burns along with intensive lung injury because of these burns," said Dr Anil Jacob.
The reason for the suicide bid is unknown.
Mr Sahay had last month submitted a report against his former chief at the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Deepak Kapoor, citing irregularities in the agency's functioning under him.
On the basis of his report, the state anti-corruption bureau had launched investigations against Mr Kapoor.
Mr Sahay was recently transferred to the Maharashtra State Police Housing Corporation. He is an IPS officer from the 1986 batch.
