Man arrested for possessing drugs worth Rs 50 lakh

Mumbai: A man has been arrested for allegedly possessing contrabands worth Rs 50 lakh by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), officials said on Wednesday.

According to the NCB, following a tip-off, they arrested one Amit Brijmohan (33), resident of New Delhi, who had arrived from Udaipur in a private Tourist Bus.

"Officials recovered eight white packets from the bag and after opening which they found dark brown coloured balls which on testing was found positive for Hashish," said Yashodhan Wanage Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau Mumbai.

The recovered Hashish weighed 18 kilograms, the officials said adding that they also seized certain documents, and a mobile phone from Brijmohan.

The NCB also said that during interrogation Brijmohan said that he has concealed around 20 kilograms of Hashish at his residence in Shrinivas Puri in New Delhi.

"NCB officers searched Delhi residence of the accused and recovered 20 kgs of Hashish concealed in plastic bags and arrested Brijmohan's wife Alka," Wanage said.

The NCB also said that Brijmohan had sourced the Hashish from Kashmir. The court has remanded him to NCB custody till February 14.
