Mumbai: A 47-year-old man, claiming to be an office-bearer of a political party, was arrested on charges of raping his second "wife" and making her MMS clip, police said on Monday.
The accused Prahlad Lokhande, who claimed to be an office-bearer and president of a suburban Ghatkopar unit of Congress, was arrested on Sunday night from Kamraj Nagar area and remanded in police custody till July 8, they said.
According to police, Lokhande, who is already married, had frequented the victim's house as her father was his friend.
Lokhande, who was facing murder charges in an old case, had convinced the 19-year-old victim to come along with him to a local court in Bandra, police added.
"The college student had gone along with him when Lokhande married her in a temple there in September 2010," said M Suryavanshi, senior inspector at Pant Nagar police station, adding that the accused dropped the girl at her home in Pant Nagar area.
"After a few months, Lokhande took her to a lodge in neighbouring Thane district where he raped her," Suryavanshi said.
He also made an MMS clip of the victim and threatened her of making it public, police said.
The victim approached the police a few weeks ago and narrated the sequence of events that led to her rape, said Suryavanshi.
After a detailed inquiry, the accused was arrested on Sunday night and booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife).
