Mumbai: A young man who had consumed poison last week in the police lock-up after being arrested in connection with a chain snatching died in a hospital on Friday, police said.
The case has been now transferred to crime branch, following the death.
Last month, Shadab Sheikh (21) and Shehzad Parmar (20) were arrested on the charges of chain snatching.
On January 15, the two consumed insecticide inside the lock-up of the L T Marg police station here.
"Sheikh died on Friday morning," said T P Lahane, dean of J J hospital, adding Parmar was critical but stable.
Shrikant Desai, Inspector at the Police Station, said that police have not yet found out how the accused got poison. Further probe is on.
