Mumbai: Badlapur police arrested the Third Year BCom student under sections of the Information Technology Act on Wednesday. Suraj Ravi Bhat, a student of Pathak High School and Junior College, Santacruz (East) and a resident of Sunderbaug Kurla Kamani, also sent lewd text messages to the girl after their friendship went sour. According to the police, Bhat befriended the 21-year-old victim when she lived near his house. She later shifted to Badlapur. The girl is a student at a Dadar based college, and the two would meet often.
"Recently, the girl started avoiding Bhat. Angry at having been rejected, he started sending objectionable messages to the girl. She brushed them off, but was alarmed when her friends told her that there was a Facebook profile with her name, with vulgar messages and photographs," said a police officer from Badlapur police station.
The girl turned to her parents, who accompanied her to Ghatkopar police station and registered an FIR against Bhat. The Ghatkopar police then transferred the complaint to the Badlapur, who proceeded with the arrest. "After investigating the matter, we arrested Bhat and he will be kept in police custody till April 13. Bhat has been booked under various sections of the Information Technology Act," said police inspector Mohite Badlapur police station.
