Mumbai: Anger over wife's affair drove a 30-year-old man to kill her in the most gruesome manner. The 26-year-old victim was put through extreme torture before being clubbed to death at their home in Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar.
According to the police, Mohammad Shiraz Khan, 30, who runs a metal fabrication business, killed his wife Kumsum on Friday night when he learnt that she was planning to elope with her paramour. Khan had caught Kumsum with her lover at their home in a compromising position on Wednesday, he told the police.
He had found her out earlier too, but despite his warnings, she had kept the affair going with the person who is believed be a cloth merchant. The police are questioning the cloth merchant in connection with the case.
Khan and Kumsum were married for eight years and have three children. It is suspected that the affair began about a year ago when Khan had gone out of station for work. The postmortem report of the victim has revealed that she was tortured badly before being killed. After assaulting her, Khan had smeared chilli powder and salt on her wounds.
A senior police officer said, "The couple had a heated argument on Friday night when he learnt she was planning to run away. It led to a fight and Khan started assaulting her. He shaved off her head and dragged her to the mirror while hitting her with a bamboo stick till she lost consciousness." Their children were asleep in another room, the officer said.
Khan, however, did not stop and kept beating her on the head, and she succumbed to the injuries at their home. Khan sat next to the body until morning, when he informed his family members who stay at Sion about the incident. He then surrendered at the Pant Nagar police who have booked him for murder.
