Mumbai:
Alleging harassment by Crime Branch officials of the city police, a 28-year-old man tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills outside the cabin of Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil in Mantralaya on Monday, police said.
Vinod Sonkamble, a resident of suburban Ghatkopar, submitted a memorandum at Patil's office protesting against 'exploitation' by the Crime Branch officials.
The minister was not present in his cabin at the time of the incident, they said.
Sonkamble collapsed near Mantralaya and was taken to GT Hospital, where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
"According to Mantralaya employees, the victim had made allegations that the crime branch officials were harassing him. He also mentioned in the memorandum that Ghatkopar crime branch unit had harassed him. We are verifying the facts," Z Gharal, senior inspector at Marine Drive police station said.
