Mumbai:
A father first pushed his mentally-challenged three-year-old daughter from the second floor of their building. She survived. So he took her bleeding body to railway tracks in Mumbai and waited there, hoping a train would end their lives.
A neighbour spotted them and persuaded the father to move off the tracks just as a train was approaching, reports Mumbai newspaper, MiD DAY.
The daily states that the child's father is mentally unstable and that her grandparents have been struggling to raise her since she was abandoned by her mother, forcing the father to take the drastic step last month.
"On March 28, Mulund based social workers Dilip and Neeta Bhanushali took the child into their custody, after obtaining an affidavit from the court, signed by her grandparents. The document says that the family members are giving the child away for adoption," states MiD DAY.
Mr Bhanushali shares that local doctors have offered free treatment for the child.
