Merchant vessel drifts near Sea Link in Mumbai

Merchant vessel drifts near Sea Link in Mumbai
Mumbai: Rescue operations have been stepped up at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai after a merchant vessel which was being towed, drifted close to the Link.

Coast guard sources, however, say the danger seems to have been averted with reports that the vessel MV Wisdom has run aground further away near Taj Lands End in Bandra.

The coast guard has issued a press release stating that they are constantly monitoring the vessel, and there is a possibility of the vessel running aground, but it is no longer a threat to the Sea Link.

Sources say MV Wisdom, which was travelling from Colombo to Alang, developed engine trouble and was being towed by a tug. As a result of bad weather, the tug's rope snapped and the ship was located four nautical miles west of the Sea Link in the evening.

The Directorate General of shipping will inquire into the incident and the coast guard will continue to monitor the situation.
