Minor detained for 30-yr-old's murder in Mumbai

Mumbai: A mob of around 50 to 60 residents of Shivaji Nagar surrounded the police station and protested after the fifth case of murder took place at jurisdiction this month.

The body of 30-year-old man was found in a drain near the dumping ground at Shivaji Nagar on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ismayeel Ansari, who stayed in Govandi and worked with an embroidery unit there.

The police have zeroed in on four suspects. Among the detainees, one is minor and son of a social worker from Shivaji Nagar who is said to have connections with senior political leaders in the state.

The police had thought that it was an accidental death but post-mortem revealed that the deceased had been smothered to death.

A senior officer said, "We have recorded statements of people who were close to Ansari and have picked up four people for questioning. Though the motive of murder is not clear, it seems some personal enmity or money dispute led to it."

They are also trying to find out about people whom Ansari had met for the last time. They want to know if he had shared anything about any rivalry or animosity that could help nab the accused.

Son of the social worker, Mohobbat Ali, has been detained with four others. The police have detained these people on basis of statements given by Ansari's relatives who have claimed that he was killed as refused to give money demanded by local goons.
