MLA hostel suicide case: College lecturer arrested

Mumbai: 11 days after a 27-year-old woman was found hanging in a room at the MLA hostel in Mumbai, Ramchandra Chikale, a lecturer at a B.Ed college, has been booked for abetting her suicide.

The woman, Rupali Andhare, was reportedly in a relationship with Mr Chikale, who was already married. He had allegedly promised Ms Andhare that he will divorce his first wife and marry her.

On August 15, Mr Chikale had come to the hostel, where she was staying with her brother, along with Ms Andhare's uncle to discuss their future plans. Ms Andhare's uncle and her family reportedly didn't approve of the marriage but they came together to arrive at a solution.

When Ms Andhare realised that a marriage won't work, she reportedly decided to end her life.

According to details from the entry register at the hostel, Mr Chikale was the last person to visit her. He had been missing since then.

Ms Andhare, whose uncle Dilip Dhaigunde is the personal assistant to Nationalist Congress Party MLA from Madha, Babanrao Shinde, was found dead in the wee hours of August 16.

According to police sources, Ms Andhare was unemployed and was suffering from depression. The police had initially thought her unemployment drove her to take such an extreme step.
