Mumbai: A newborn has died after being flung from the sixth storey of the apartment building where the mother worked as a domestic help.

The woman, who could be in her early 20s was unmarried, the police said.

The incident took place on Saturday in the western suburb of Versova. The woman had told her employers that she wanted to stay in their  apartment to rest for two days after her delivery. Her employers used another flat in Mumbai as their main residence, so she was alone there.

She has been charged with murder but has been admitted to hospital as she herself was bleeding when the police found her.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhuri told NDTV, " A case has been registered and investigations are on to establish what led to the situation."
