Mumbai: Flights in and out of Mumbai are being drastically rescheduled for April 23 (Saturday) and April 30 because both runways at the airport will remain closed for five hours.
Lights at the intersection of the runways have to be realigned because the runways have been made wider. So from 11.30 to 4.30 pm, the runways will be off-limits. Mumbai is India's second-busiest airport after Delhi.
All airlines have been informed about the changes, say airport officials.
Sources at airlines say they expect considerable delays once the runways do open at 4.30 pm because of a massive backlog.
The runways are being widened from 45 metres to 60 metres to allow planes like the massive A 380s to use them comfortably.
