Mumbai, Maharashtra: Corporate lawyer Janhavi Gadkar, accused of running over two persons under the influence of alcohol last month, has filed an application for bail in a Mumbai Court today.
"Ms Gadkar has moved another application. She says she should be granted bail now as the investigation in the case is over," said a police officer.
Ms Gadkar had been denied bail by the Court three weeks ago. On June 26, Magistrate Richa Khedkar had rejected her plea, saying that there was a possibility of the accused influencing the witnesses.
The corporate lawyer has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The court said that being a woman and highly qualified person were not sufficient grounds for bail when the accused is facing such a charge.
The application is likely to come up for hearing on July 22.
Tests have showed that Ms Gadkar's blood samples had three times the permitted level of alcohol on June 9, when the accident took place. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 30 mg of alcohol is the permissible limit for driving. Two people had died in the accident.
