Mumbai:
There was vandalism on the streets of Mumbai on Wednesday. Auto rickshaw drivers faced the wrath of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena activists, after they went on a strike demanding a fare hike.
Workers of both parties took law in their own hands, and smashed many autos across the city, claiming they were only supporting the agenda of cracking down on errant auto rickshaw drivers.
There were also reports of auto rickshaws being burnt by some activists.
Some Shiv Sena activists forced a group of drivers at an auto rickshaw stand in Ghatkopar to install electronic meters.
"The incidents in Bandra and Vile Parle were orchestrated by the Shiv Sena. Auto drivers who behave arbitrarily have been taught a lesson," said Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena MP.
At least 10 MNS activists were arrested for indulging in violence.
