Mumbai: Mumbai's Fire Brigade Chief Sunil Nesrikar has died of multiple organ failure at the National Burns Centre in Airoli, Navi Mumbai.

Mr Nesrikar, who had suffered over 50 per cent burns in a fire at Kalbadevi in Mumbai on May 9, is the fourth casualty for the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

Mumbai Fire Brigade's Deputy Chief Officer Sudhir Amin died on May 15 after battling 90 per cent burns in the fire. He too had been admitted to the National Burns Centre.

The bodies of two other firemen, MM Desai and SW Rane who were trapped under the debris during the fire-fighting operations were recovered after the building collapsed. Mr Amin had been awarded the President's Gold Medal for meritorious service during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Mr Nesrikar had been promoted as Chief Fire Officer after the Lotus Business Park fire in Andheri last year. On July 18 last year, a fireman was killed on duty while battling a blaze at glass facade Lotus Business Park, a commercial high-rise in Andheri west.
