In a bid to make the Right to Information (RTI) Act more effective in the city, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) inaugurated RTI library recently. The library is located at the ground floor of the TMC headquarters and will be run by the Public Relation office, TMC.
The library will retain the record of rules and regulations, several acts, yearly budget, discussions in weekly meetings by standing committee and decisions made in the house. It will also have TMC audit report, weekly details of TMC's work and books on RTI.
Earlier, records were not available and even if anyone needed to avail information they had to file an RTI which would take week's time. The library ensures that all the civic corporation's documents and discussions of the meetings will be kept open for the citizens.
Thane is the second corporation in the state to start such a library after the Pune civic body. "This initiative was taken by municipal commissioner RA Rajeev and its aim is to bring transparency in the working of TMC," said Sandeep Malvi, public relation officer. "With the inauguration of this library, now people will not have to file RTI for small matters and can refer to the documents available in this library," he added.
