Mumbai:
Former senior police inspector with Mumbai police Arun Borude, accused of raping a 15-year-old girl from Powai, has been found dead.
His body was found near the railway tracks at Srirampur in Ahmadnagar.
"We have information that Arun Borude was hit by a train at level crossing in Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district. He was initially taken to Kamghar hospital with multiple injuries on head, shoulder and chest. Borude was shifted to a hospital at Shirdi but was declared dead on arrival. His body is in Kamghar hospital and has been identified by his relatives. Also, his identity card has been recovered from his body," joint Commissioner, Crime Branch, Himanshu Roy, said.
He, however, said the police are unable to say whether it's a suicide or an accident.
According to the police, the girl was raped by four to five men, including Borude, on several occasions between February and March this year in a flat in the building 'Emerald Court' in suburban Powai. Borude resides with his family in an adjacent flat. The rape incident came to light when the victim gave birth to a baby girl in October in a suburban hospital.
Borude was dismissed from service in November over allegations that he raped the minor girl. He was charged under Sections 366(a), 376 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-prostitution Law, 1956.
He has been absconding since November 9.
After a trail of investigation led sleuths to suspect Borude of running a sex racket, the police booked him under the anti-prostitution laws.
Borude was posted with the Powai unit of the Crime Branch and it is believed that it was then that he came in contact with Shanta Gaikwad, a pimp who pushed the victim into prostitution.
According to the victim's family members, police officials had shown her the picture of Borude and they claim she had identified him as a person who raped her.
