Mumbai:
More details have surfaced in the incident involving the recent gruesome murder of an Andheri woman, who was allegedly killed by her husband before he called up the police and confessed to his crime and then proceeded to jump off the Vashi bridge.
Investigations have revealed that the man stabbed his wife 32 times after she bit him on his finger hard during their scuffle that day. mid-day has been reporting about the June 9 murder, allegedly committed by Rajesh Narayan (27), who killed his wife Ritu (22) in a fit of anger after she asked him for a divorce and expressed her desire to marry someone else.
The couple had gotten married last year after a courtship of five years. They used to stay in Khajurwadi and both worked at different call centres. Their marriage had not been a smooth one and neighbours had told mid-day the couple would often fight.
From the very beginning, Narayan suspected his wife was having an affair. He told the police that he, too, had three girlfriends. Ritu had begun staying at her friend's house and Narayan had once slapped her on the road for refusing to come home.
After this, the 22-year-old had even complained to the D N Nagar police, but the cops had counselled the couple to give their marriage some more time.
The incidentOn June 9, police sources said, Ritu called her husband up and said she wanted to sort out all the problems in their marriage. Narayan, who was at work then, left for their Khajurwadi home. When Ritu revealed to him that she wanted to separate and marry someone else, Narayan started abusing her and the altercation turned into a scuffle.
He tried to stuff a dupatta in her mouth and, during this, Ritu allegedly bit him hard on his finger, leading to his finger bone getting fractured. This pain, combined with the anger of her asking for a divorce, led Narayan to lose his senses and stab Ritu 32 times.
After locking her up in the bathroom, he then wrote a seven-page suicide note, went to the Vashi bridge, and called up the police to tell them about the murder and his intention to commit suicide. He did jump off the overpass, but was rescued by local fishermen. A DN Nagar police officer said, "Rajesh is in our custody.
We have got his medical report, which confirms that his wife bit his finger at the time of the incident, causing the finger to break."
