Mumbai: From Parel to Eastern Expressway, potholes galore
Mumbai: For thousands of Mumbaikars who travel to their offices in the Parel area it's a daily struggle against potholes. NDTV decided to drive from Lower Parel to Priyadarshini Circle on the Eastern Express Highway. And the journey did not throw up any pleasant surprises -  potholes were galore on the arterial road that connects south Mumbai to the  eastern suburbs. (Fix that pothole: Full coverage)

NDTV started from Lower Parel and took the Elphinstone bridge to hit the Eastern Express Highway. The Elphinstone Bridge had numerous potholes even after repairs. And just as we hit the Eastern Express Highway. a two-metre wide pothole greets us. A make shift barrier has been put up to warn motorists about the huge pothole ahead. That leaves only one lane of the north-bound flank open.  NDTV had reported about these potholes two weeks ago.

As we were passing by, the BMC contractors arrived to repair the pothole. But the shoddy job led us to ask questions and even those who repaired the pothole, admitted, "The repair was temporary and the pothole was bound to reappear".

Commuters who were passing vented their frustration as the team went about repairing the pothole. Our journey continued too.

As we reached the Dadar flyover, more potholes came along the way. The ones reported last week were gone but new ones had appeared in their place. And vehicles continued to struggle to negotiate the potholes.

We moved on. For a while there were no potholes but as we approached Priyadarshini Circle on the Eastern Expressway, they reappeared. A recently repaired stretch was beginning to develop new potholes. And by the time we reached Priyadarshini Circle, we were back to negotiating potholes.
