Rains in Mumbai: Heavy overnight rain in Mumbai, some trains delayed after waterlogging on tracks.
Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai and its neighbouring areas for the fourth consecutive day today, leaving the city with waterlogging, traffic jams, cancellations and delays in trains. The western railway cancelled Mumbai-Valsad-Surat section due to water logging in Palghar. Western Railway later confirmed that water levels had receded and train movement had been re-started at 8.05 am. However, train speeds were restricted to 30 km/h to ensure safety.
According to Western Railway, the city witnessed heavy, incessant rains with 361 mm during Sunday night, 100 mm between 4am and 5am in the Palghar area of Mumbai Division. Some trains, including Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express, have been regulated in view of the passengers' safety. According to private weather forecaster, Skymet, rains in the city are expected to get intense starting the night of July 3 wherein hefty showers will be seen as the weather system which formed in the Bay will move towards the West Coast giving heavy showers.

Commuters have been facing troubles due to the heavy rains. "Fifty minutes train journey took two and half hours today as railway tracks were flooded," a resident was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters.
Mohammed Ayub Kazi, 30, was electrocuted inside his home in Shivajinagar in north-east Mumbai at around 11.45 pm last night. He was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead. Overnight heavy spells of rain inundated several areas in the city including Dadar, Sion, Matunga, Parel, Wadala and virtually halted all traffic movement, leading to huge traffic snarls across the city since daybreak.

Senior Railway officials have been monitoring the situation from the Mumbai Central Control Room, Western Railways has tweeted. Mumbai (93 mm) and Palghar (361 mm) have been receiving heavy rainfall since yesterday, affecting train connectivity and passenger safety.

Intense Rainfall To Continue
India Meteorological Department, Mumbai: Intense spells of rainfall likely to continue in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar during the next two hours.
The Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation has diverted Traffic from Gandhi Market, National College, SV Road, and Bandra West.
Railway tracks were submerged between Sion railway station and Matunga railway station following heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, two trains have been cancelled, one has been diverted and two trains have been rescheduled, due to the derailment of goods train between Jambrung and Thakurwadi on ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala, according to Sunil Udasi, CPRO, Central Railway.
13 Trains Cancelled
"13 trains have been cancelled today. After receding of water, train movement at Palghar was started at 8.05 hours at restricted speed of 30 kmph in view of safety," Western Railways said. Some trains including Mumbai- Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express have been regulated in view of safety it said.
Rain Showers To Continue
Mumbai has been witnessing relentless heavy downpour from Sunday night and many parts of the city are expected to continue to see good showers today, according to the weather department. The rains, which have been intense in many parts of the city including Andheri, Kurla, Bandra, Charni Road, Santa Cruz, BKC and others, has resulted in water logging on streets and railway tracks causing inconvenience to people. The pleasant weather and with irregular rain showers that will continue for the next few days. with the Indian Meteorological Department predicting "Generally cloudy sky with intermittent rains," for the city. The maximum and minimum temperature in the financial capital will hover around 24.8 degrees Celsius and 28.4 degrees Celsius.

Heavy winds led to bamboo from nearby construction work falling on tracks at Marine Lines. All trains on the Churchgate-Marine Lines have been stopped. Restoration work is on and traffic is expected to resume in 30 minutes, Western Railway tweeted.

Heavy rain in Mumbai for a fourth consecutive day has led to water-logging on railway tracks. Several overnight trains have either been canceled or delayed. At least 100 mm of rainfall was recorded between 4 am and 5 am this morning, with more than 360 mm recorded overnight. According to messages posted by Western Railway on social media, some trains in the Mumbai-Valsad-Surat section have been cancelled due to water-logging in Palghar section.
