Mumbai: Police investigation has revealed that one of the kiosks fitted at Thane's Korum Mall was misused to send a bomb hoax message on Tuesday evening. However, the accused in the case could not be identified until late on Wednesday evening.
On Tuesday, Korum Mall authorities informed the police that they had received a message threatening to blast the second floor of the mall. The police and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) searched the entire four-storied mall, but could find nothing. Police found that it was a message in the computerised complaint and suggestion box.
Korum Mall has installed computerised complaint-cum-suggestion kiosks in the entire mall.
Visitors are supposed to lodge their complaints or suggestions about the mall on the kiosk.
The staff at the mall checks the message box at regular intervals. The hoax message was noticed at around 7.30 pm.
Ashok Morale, deputy commissioner of police, said, "The message was registered through one of the kiosks at about 3 pm. By 7.30 pm, when it was spotted, we were informed," the DCP said. He said police checked the CCTV footage, but could not identify the person behind the hoax.
