Mumbai:
A 50-year-old man has been arrested from a pub in western Mumbai after he allegedly molested a woman and opened fire inside the premises. The accused, Vikram Kumar was arrested after a case was registered at Amboli Police station by the manager of the pub. He has been sent to police custody till June 2.
The police say Vikram arrived at the Escape pub, around midnight. He was reportedly drunk and allegedly started behaving inappropriately with a woman who was present there and also molested her.
The woman complained to the manager of the pub, Jitendra Kumar Jha and he asked Vikram to leave the premises. The accused got into an argument with the manager and took out a gun and shot him in the leg. Then, in a fit of rage he brandished his pistol and opened fire.
The manager was rushed to a local hospital. The police are studying the CCTV footage to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
Senior Police Inspector of Amboli Police Station, Prabhakar Medhe told reporters, "The gun was tucked near the knee so there is a possibility that it went unnoticed by the security guards. The patrons are frisked before being allowed inside the pub. We are probing if there were any lapses on the part of the security guard in checking or did they knowingly allow the accused to carry the gun inside the pub as he was regular at the pub."
"The CCTV footage clearly shows that the accused was trying to hold the hands of the woman and therefore we have also charged him with molestation," added Mr Medhe.
