After three days, the Saki Naka police arrested a 22 -year-old man, who had allegedly kidnapped a six-year-old girl on Sunday and raped her in Powai. The accused has been identified as Manoj Kumar Vishwakarma from Yadav Nagar, Saki Naka at Andheri (east).
"The sketches which we had prepared following the description given by a woman who noticed the victim crying while being led away by the accused near the Powai pipeline area helped us nab Vishwakarma," said senior police inspector, S Dhanedhar of the Saki Naka Police station.
"We nabbed Vishwakarma and he confessed in the police interrogation and said he saw the victim while she was playing outside her house and approached her after giving some sweets" added Dhanedhar.
"The victim was admitted to the Rajawadi hospital and will be discharged soon," said the police officer.
Vishwakarma came to Mumbai five years ago. He hails from Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh. Saki Naka police produced him in the Metropolitan Court, Andheri on Wednesday and he was remanded police custody till December 20.
