The lawyer of the model who has accused senior IPS officer DIG Sunil Paraskar of rape and molestation has moved a Mumbai Sessions Court to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to Mr Paraskar.
Advocate Chitra Salunkhe filed the application after a man, claiming to be a trusted aide of Mr Paraskar, allegedly visited her home and offered Rs 10 lakh to drop the case. The court will hear the application on September 1.
The man, a resident of Chembur, has been identified as Deepak Gupta and the police are on the lookout for him.
Mr Paraskar, accused of raping a model, was granted anticipatory bail earlier this month after the court ruled that custodial interrogation was not necessary for investigation in this case.
Speaking to reporters after the court order, Mr Paraskar had said, "I have faith in the judiciary. In my thirty years of service, no charges have been brought against me. I know the victim and met her as a friend."
The prosecution had argued that this was a case of passive submission because the accused was a senior police officer in charge of the area where the crime took place.
The defence had said that the conduct of the complainant shows that there was a healthy relationship between them and that she was not depressed or traumatised by the alleged crime.
Speaking to NDTV, the model had said, "They are trying to assassinate my character publically. Sunil Paraskar was blackmailing me in another case. I could do something only after he was transferred out of the area."
The complainant, a 25-year-old model, approached Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria with complaint of rape and molestation against Mr Paraskar, who is currently posted at the Maharashtra police headquarters as Deputy Inspector General (Protection of Civil Rights Units).
The matter was referred to the Crimes against Women Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch which conducted a preliminary enquiry and then an FIR was registered at Malwani police station against the 1997-batch IPS officer.
