Mumbai Police goes hi-tech to tackle crowd during Ganesh idol immersions
Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has made elaborate arrangements to tackle the traffic during the Ganesh idol immersions in the city on Saturday.

Using hi-tech modes to keep more effective vigil on the crowd, the cops will use 'Mobotix', a camera that can zoom in on a speeding car and even reveal the driver of the vehicle. The device has been installed for the first time at a vantage point at Girgaum chowpatty. An unmanned aerial camera called 'Netra' will also be used at key immersion locations to keep an eye on miscreants.

At least 48,000 cops have been deployed on the streets during the immersion processions. Platoons of State Reserve Police Force, Riots Action Control along with Quick Response Team and Force 1 have been kept on standby. A team of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad has also been kept on standby.

For better crowd management, vantage immersion spots will be bifurcated in four lanes - one dedicated for solitary jaywalkers, one for families, one dedicated for big Ganesh idols and one for small household idols. Speed boats and amphibian boats have been deployed at Girgaum chowpatty, Juhu beach and Shivaji Park.

Special security arrangements have been made for the Lalbaugcha Raja, the most famous Ganesh idol in the city. No parking will be allowed within 100 meters of the pandal. Devotees have been asked not to carry any offerings. At least three Deputy Commissioner of Police, one additional Police Commissioner and one officer of Joint Commissioner rank will be responsible for security. A Quick Response Team will lead the procession of Lalbaugcha Raja.
