Mumbai potholes: Municipal corporator assaulted, allegedly by MNS workers

Mumbai: Members of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena or MNS today allegedly assaulted a municipal contractor who had reported that all potholes in suburban Kurla had been filled.

The MNS men took the contractor to a spot still ridden with pot-holes and then allegedly beat him up.

Mumbai's monsoon misery has been compounded by the many potholes that deface the city's roads leading to heavy water-logging every time it rains. Municipal bodies are scurrying to fix these in the face of massive public fury, and political parties too muscle in to score points.

Raj Thackeray's men had on Monday held three municipal engineers hostage in their BMC office in Dadar and said they would not be allowed to go home till all the pot holes in the area were fixed.

The engineers were finally released after six hours on the promise that the potholes would be filled the moment rain stopped.
