Several areas in Mumbai witnessed a massive power outage on Sunday, which also briefly affected the local train movement.
After over an hour of disruption, the power supply started getting restored from around 11 am.
Train services were halted for an hour on the Western Railway line between Churchgate and Andheri stations.
"There was no train movement between Churchgate and Andheri from 9.42 am due to the failure of the M/s TATA power supply," said a statement by the Western Railways.
However, as an interim measure supply was extended from the Jogeshwari substation and Services were restored at 10.44 am, added the statement.
Complaints of power cuts were reported from Sion, Dadar and Matunga areas in central Mumbai. There were also similar reports from parts of south Mumbai.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport, a state undertaking, distributes power in the island city and depends on producers like the Tata Power.
In a statement, a Tata Power spokesperson blamed the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company's line from Kalwa (in neighbouring Thane) to Trombay that caused massive voltage fluctuations causing the tripping of its Trombay Salsette-1 unit.
"However, Tata Power's Hydro plants were intact, and the Bhira Hydro Plant got islanded and synchronised. The electricity has been restored by Tata Power," the spokesperson added.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a tweet expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the power outage.
"Due to some technical issues, there has been power supply failure at many parts of the city.
Our team is on the field to resolve the issue. The power supply is expected to be restored in an hour. We regret the inconvenience," the civic body tweeted.
