Mumbai Ranks Sixth in Lonely Planet's Best Cities to Travel List

Lonely Planet has also come up with a list of 10 best places to seek silence.

Mumbai: Mumbai has been ranked sixth by Lonely Planet in a list featuring world's top 10 cities to visit next year.

"The city is set to be the powerhouse of fashion, finance and film," the world's leading travel media company said in a report.

The list is topped by Kotor in Montenegro (Europe), a small Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline.

It is followed by Quito in Ecuador, Dublin in Ireland, George Town in Malaysia and Rotterdam in The Netherlands.

The list of best moustache destinations is topped by Rajasthan, where it is common to see a full-bodied nose neighbour which is also an age-old symbol of virility.

It is followed by Portland in the US, Budapest in Hungary, Trondheim in Norway and Istanbul in Turkey.

Lonely Planet has also come up with a list of 10 best places to seek silence.

Vipassana Meditation Retreat in Dhammagiri, Maharashtra, has been ranked 10th in the list of 10 best places to seek silence when the modern world's constant clamour gets one's ears ringing.

Kartause Ittingen in Switzerland notched first place in this category followed by Emoyeni in South Africa, Esalen Institute in the US, Iona in Scotland and Nyepi Day in Bali.

Lonely Planet has also published a list of top 10 countries to visit next year. Botswana ranks number one among them, followed by Japan and the USA.

The top 10 regions' list features Transylvania in Romania at the top followed by West Iceland and Valle de Vinales in Cuba.
