Mumbai: Rapist tantrik Bangladeshi; booked under Foreigners Act

Mumbai: The JJ Marg police have booked Mehdi Kasim Sheikh, 46, under the Foreigners Act, 1946, for staying in the country illegally. The police have evidence which proves that the accused is a Bangladeshi national.

Sheikh, a self-proclaimed black magician who allegedly raped six cousins and their domestic help over a period of time, had a fake PAN card, an election card and photocopies of a passport. The police had seized all these fake documents.

Sheikh was arrested on November 28. He was produced before a local court on Sunday which remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days. "We have informed the court that Sheikh hails from Dhaka in Bangladesh. He came to Mumbai with his parents when he was seven years old. Since then, he had stayed in different parts of the country. Investigations have revealed that the accused prepared illegal documents to present himself as an Indian," said senior police inspector Khanderao Patil.

Sheikh had told the police that he hailed from West Bengal. When the police reached the address to verify his claim, it turned out to be fake. Sheikh, who graduated in Urdu from a university in Uttar Pradesh came in contact with the families of the young girls in 2002 when he was hired to teach them Urdu.
