Mumbai TV producer alleges threats by an extortionist
Mumbai: The latest victim of extortion in B-town is Sikandar Mirza, a small time producer-director of TV serials in Mumbai. Mirza is allegedly being harassed by an unknown person since August this year for Rs 50 lakh.

On November 3, Mirza was even shot at when he refused to give in to the extortionist's demands.

"Sikandar Mirza was getting phone calls from a person calling himself Ganesh since August. Initially Ganesh used to abuse him on the phone, which Mirza ignored as a crank caller. But soon he began demanding money. And on November 3, when Mirza was waiting with an actor outside a cafe in Lokhandwala, someone shot at him. He was shot in the leg but could not see his attacker," a police official from Oshiwara police station said.

After the incident, Mirza lodged a complaint at the Oshiwara police station.

"The caller knows everything about me and my family. He tells me details about my daily routine and knows when my wife or sister go out of the house. I am very scared for my family. Initially I ignored him but after the shooting incident, I am petrified," said a worried Mirza.

Mirza has made a serial called Kahi Der Na Ho Jaye for Doordarshan and produced Sexy Girl, a music album.

"After the police complaint, the caller has stopped calling from the earlier number but I still get threatening text messages from another number," Mirza added.

"We have found out that both the numbers used by the caller are Mumbai numbers. At the moment, the first number is switched off and we are trying to trace the second number," said a police official.

"The matter is under investigation and the police team is working to trace the caller. We can move forward only after we get details about the SIM card's owner," said Additional Commissioner of Police, Amitabh Gupta.

Meanwhile, Mirza has accused the police of inaction. "I and my family are under such a threat but there is no progress in the case. The police have not given us any security. We worry about what can happen next," he said.
