Mumbai: Two men working at a petrol pump were on Friday murdered by a youth who allegedly intended to rob them, police said.
The duo, Sajid Ansari (40) and Ayub Ansari (39), was found in a pool of blood at the outlet near Maratha Mandir in Mumbai central area this morning, police said.
Although the motive behind the double murder was not yet clear, preliminary probe suggested that the suspect, identified as Kabir, wanted to rob the two, but they did not have any cash with them.
According to Nagpada Police, the victims had been working at the petrol pump, where they would sleep after their duty hours.
Around 1.40 AM today when Sajid and Ayub were asleep, the suspect picked up a silencer pipe of a four-wheeler kept at a garage nearby and attacked the duo.
Sajid used to handle the daily collection at the pump and then deposit the amount in the employer's office.
The accused, Kabir, must have thought Sajid had cash with him and planned to rob him, said Nandkumar Mehetar, Senior inspector of Nagpada.
"However, the duo did not have any cash with them," he added.
