Murder on train: CCTV footage gives clue about the culprit

Mumbai: A day after a 65-year-old woman was found murdered in the ladies coach of Kamayani Express in Mumbai, police said that the CCTVs installed at Thane railway station have recorded the image of the suspected killer.

"The suspect could be seen in the CCTV footage installed at Thane railway station where he boarded Kamayani Express. The face of the man, who wore black T-shirt, is not very clear in the footage," said Dilip Gore, Senior Inspector at Kurla Railway Police.

Nanki Lal Mohammed Siddique (65), a native of Uttar Pradesh, with her throat slit, was found in the ladies compartment of Kamyani Express which arrived at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) station in Kurla on Saturday night.

The victim who was arriving in the city to attend the weddings of her grandsons, however, was found lying in a pool of blood by her grandson Mohammed Imran Siddique (20), accompanying her when the train came to a halt at Kurla, police said.

"We are now in the process of getting the sketches of the suspect, who is likely to be a habitual offender going by the way in which he had carried out the crime," Gore added.

According to police, Nanki Lal and Imran had boarded the train from Allahabad on Friday. The grandson was travelling in the ladies compartment along with her. As the train reached Thane railway station, the suspect boarded the ladies compartment and asked Imran to shift to the general coach or else pay Rs 500 as fine for boarding the ladies compartment, police said.

"The suspect might have had alighted the train near Vidyavihar railway station where the train usually slows down for changing tracks. Hence, we are also scanning the footages at Vidyavihar station to get more clues," the police inspector said.

Gore said that the culprit might have targeted the senior citizen as the train usually gets empty at Thane station. He added that Siddiquie might have been murdered as she offered resistance.
