Naval Officer's 16-Year-Old Daughter Allegedly Commits Suicide In Mumbai

The 16-year-old girl had jumped from a building, sources in Mumbai Police said.

Mumbai: The 16-year-old daughter of a naval officer has allegedly committed suicide in Mumbai. Police sources say she was being harassed by the parents of her classmate. Shobhanharak Singh, the father of her schoolmate, has been arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide.

The girl's father, who is an officer in the Indian navy, has alleged that she was being harassed by Mr Singh, a lift man with the navy and his wife. The couple had claimed that she had created a Facebook page and posted their son's phone number on it.

The officer said his daughter had denied the charge, claiming she was not tech-savvy enough to do that.

The school authorities have tried to mediate in the matter, but that did not end the harassment.

On Wednesday morning, the girl had left for school. She allegedly jumped to death from a building in Navy Nagar in south Mumbai. Her body was discovered soon after, but no suicide note was found, the police said.
