Mumbai: Just where is the girl child safe? A nine-year-old girl, asleep on a long-distance train right next to her parents, was allegedly raped by a co-passenger on Saturday night.
Police said the victim was travelling with her parents on the Mumbai-bound Gorakhpur Express. The accused, Ejaz Ansari, a 22-year-old resident of Basti in Uttar Pradesh, was traveling on a wait-listed ticket and had requested the girl's parents to give him a seat. He allegedly raped the child while she was asleep.
The girl complained to her parents, who discovered that she was bleeding. The parents then caught Ansari and handed him over to the Government Railway Police at Kurla station in Maharashtra.
He was charged with rape and arrested.
