Non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Dutt in case by film producer

Non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Dutt in case by film producer
Mumbai: A Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable warrant for actor Sanjay Dutt in connection with a complaint filed against him by movie producer Shakeel Noorani.

Mr Noorani has alleged that he received death threats from the underworld on behalf of Mr Dutt.

The actor has skipped two court appearances in this case.

Mr Noorani alleges that Mr Dutt agreed to shoot a movie with him in 2002, and then abandoned the project. He wants Mr Dutt to repay a 50-lakh signing amount and nearly two crores that he says he incurred as losses. He says that in retaliation, Sanjay Dutt organised for the underworld to make warning phone calls to him.

Sanjay Dutt, who is 53, has asked for a review of the Supreme Court decision to send him back to jail for three-and-a-half years on a case linked to the 1993 serial bombings in which 250 people were killed and more than 700 injured.

Mr Dutt was convicted last month of illegally possessing weapons arranged for him by underworld gang-lords convicted for the attacks.

The actor originally said he would not challenge the verdict, but he has since filed a review petition and has also been granted four weeks by the Supreme Court to finish shooting films in which his lawyers said nearly 270 crores were invested.
