In yet another incident where a newborn's first glimpse of the world was the inside of a Mumbai local, a woman gave birth to a baby girl in a train while it was on its way to Dadar from Vasai.
Early on Wednesday morning, while travelling in the local, the Nalasopara resident went into labour. Luckily for her, three trained nurses were commuting to work in the same compartment as hers and helped her deliver the baby.
The woman was on her way to Borivli to get herself admitted in Bhagwati Hospital, when she went into labour at around 6.30 am. Since she was not in a state to be taken to a hospital, the train was stopped at Vasai Road station for 25 minutes, during which the birth occurred.
The nurses who came to her aid were Ashwini Khanvilkar, Ronny Baby and Roshni Bhuvat. They were on their way to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri where they work. As soon as they realised that the woman was in labour, they began preparations for the birth. After the delivery, the woman was taken to a hospital in Vasai, but since it was not a maternity facility, she was taken to Vasai civic hospital.
