Mumbai: Strict vigil at railway stations ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup final led to the arrest of a youth from Orissa who was found possessing 52 kilo cannabis at Dadar in central Mumbai, police said.
The accused identified as Suraj Pawan (19), hailing from Cuttack in Orissa, was caught with four bags of drugs at Dadar railway station while his aide escaped upon seeing the police, Senior Inspector at Dadar railway police station Shivaji Shinde said.
According to police, railway police patrolling the station noticed the two youths moving suspiciously at 3.30 am.
"We have also found two tickets which suggest they came to Mumbai by Konark Express from Bhubaneswar. The two were here to deliver the contraband to a buyer in suburban Bandra," Shinde added.
"The strict vigil led to the arrest of the accused who claimed he came to Mumbai for the first time. We are verifying his claims and launched a manhunt for the absconder and further probe is on," he said.
