Mumbai: On Monday morning during rush hour at a local station in Mumbai, the crowd suddenly parted with scream and gasps when a luxury car appeared on the platform. The young driver was Harmeet Singh, a Ranji player who was reportedly in the under-19 cricket team.

The incident took place at 7.15 am at Andheri station's platform one, which was bustling with commuters headed to offices, schools and colleges. No one was injured.

As people ran and tried to get out of the way, Harmeet Singh regained control of his Hyundai car and stopped it just next to the railway track, where a suburban local train was expected to arrive.

Harmeet Singh, who lives in the suburbs, has been held for questioning by the railway police.

The police say a medical examination will establish whether he was drunk.

After the car stopped, many were seen touching it and taking selfies with it, especially along with a train in the backdrop.

This is the second incident of this kind at Andheri in recent months.

In November, 35-year-old Rajesh Yadav drove his Innova car straight on to Platform number six of the same station.

Andheri is one of the few railway stations in Mumbai which is on the ground level and runs mostly parallel to the main roads, with few barricades or obstacles to prevent cars from entering.

Platform number one is connected to the road by a ramp, which makes it easy for cars to drive straight on to it, the police said.
