Mumbai:
A passenger today died onboard a Mumbai-bound SpiceJet flight following complaint of chest pain after the aircraft took off from Kochi.
"K A Chander Prakash (47) was declared dead on arrival by the medical staff soon after the SpiceJet flight SG-112 landed at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport," a SpiceJet spokesman said.
Prakash, who boarded the flight at Kochi, complained about discomfort and chest pain soon after the plane took off for Mumbai.
Sensing urgency, the pilot sought permission from the Mumbai Air Traffic Control for emergency landing.
The ATC then alerted the medical staff on ground.
As soon as the flight landed, the medical staff rushed inside the aircraft to attend to the passenger.
"Unfortunately, the passenger was declared dead on arrival. Our condolences are with the bereaved family of the passenger and we extend all our support to the family at this hour of need," SpiceJet spokesperson said.
