Police constable among five held for murdering neighbour

Mumbai: Five persons, including a police constable, were arrested on Sunday for allegedly murdering their 25-year-old neighbour in Cuff Parade area of Mumbai, police said.

The accused have been identified as police constable Prakash Sawade, Rakesh Sawade, Anil Sawade, Kishan Sawade and Vishal Rathi.

"We are on the lookout for the other two accused who are currently absconding," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Colaba Division) Iqbal Shaikh said.

The incident took place in Cuffe Parade's Geeta Nagar area on Sunday morning.

The deceased Khwaja Mohiuddin alias Amir was on his way to public toilet when he was stopped by seven persons at around 7:30 AM.

The men assaulted Amir with an iron rod and then stabbed him in the stomach. Amir was rushed to St George Hospital and then to the G T Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said.

A case of murder was then registered at the Cuffe Parade Police Station.

Shaikh said that Prakash is a police driver and is attached to the MRA Marg Police Station. He revealed that on Saturday night, the victim had got into an argument with one of the accused.

All five arrested accused have been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

"We will produce them in court on Monday. We are also on the lookout for the other two accused and will nab them soon," added Shaikh.
