Mumbai:
In a major development in the Sheena Bora case, the Khar police have finally traced the hired car in which she was murdered and her body was dumped in the jungle in Raigad in 2012.
The sedan, which had changed hands twice in 2012 itself, has been traced to an owner in Vashi and the Khar police will bring it back early on Friday morning. According to sources, the owner of the car has also been traced and his statement will be recorded soon.
HiredOfficials said the sedan was owned by the Worli-based AM motors and had been hired from the firm. The television channel Peter Mukerjea worked with earlier would hire cars from AM Motors and that is how Indrani knew about the firm.
In 2012, Sheena was allegedly murdered by Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai inside the car and it was also used to take the body to Gagode Budruk village in Pen taluka. The car was later given back to AM Motors.
According to sources from the police, the car was sold to someone in 2012, who sold it again to its current owner in Vashi the same year. "The car is currently with the third owner.
He bought the car for around Rs 80,000 and we have learnt that he celebrated by distributing sweets. However, the car is now crucial evidence in the case and he will have to do without it for a few months," said a police official.
Reconstruction"A special team from Khar police will reach the owner's house in Vashi and collect the car. We will reconstruct the crime with the car, including the places where Indrani and Sanjeev sat and how they murdered Sheena in the car.
We will also try to figure out how they tried to avoid suspicion by making it look like Sheena was sleeping on Indrani's lap on the way to Pen," said the officer. "It will also be very important to check whether changes or modifications have been done to the car as more than three years have passed since the crime took place," he added.
