Mumbai:
Murthy (38), who worked as a machine operator at Mico factory in Adugodi suffocated his wife Lakshmi (35) and then his children Yashas and Lohith aged 12 and 10 with a pillow, before committing suicide by hanging himself with a saree on Monday. The tragic incident came to light in the early hours of yesterday.
The police said, "As per the note he left behind, he was forced to work in night shifts and hence took the extreme step. However, we are investigating the case to know the exact reason."
Murthy's parents, Rajappa and Sannamma, who used to stay with him, had gone to their elder son Narasimha's home in Tavarekere, when the incident occurred. Murthy's younger brother Ravi, who stays in Hosakote, said that he last spoke to his brother at around 11.30 am on Monday over the phone. "He was very close to me and used to discuss everything. He was very normal and we are shocked to know his family is no more. Nobody in our family knows why he took the extreme decision," he rued.
Ravi informed that before Murthy killed his family and committed suicide, he had sent an SMS to his uncle Krishnnappa, his son Vinod and a colleague Ramamurthy, informing them that about his decision. "He had sent the SMS at around 11.30 pm on Monday. Unfortunately, none of them read it. Vinod, who woke up at 5 am to go for a morning walk, read the SMS and called Murthy. But when he did not respond he went to Murthy's house to find out that all of them were dead." If the SMS was read on time the tragedy would have been averted, Ravi added.
