A police case will be filed against self-styled godwoman Radhe Maa for allegedly carrying a "trishul" or trident on a flight last year. A court in Mumbai has passed an order to this effect following a petition by an activist, who has pointed out that such sharp implements are banned in airports and aircraft.
A trishul, which is "dangerous and could cause harm to passengers", is among the many items banned by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, said Right to Information activist Asad Patel.
But as Radhe Maa claims to be a godwoman, she was not restrained by the airport security staff when she was found carrying a trident in August 2015, he said. She had allegedly taken a flight operated by a private airlines, carrying the trident.
But though he wrote to various authorities, including police and airport officials, they took no action, Mr Patel said. "On August 13, 2015, I sent legal notice to all concerned parties and then filed a complaint with the court."
Today the court has asked the police to file a First Information Report, or FIR, in the case.
An official of the airport police station said they will take action after they receive the court order.
The controversial godwoman, whose actual name is Sukhwinder Kaur, was earlier accused in a case of abetment to dowry demand by a Mumbai resident, Nikki Gupta. A second case was filed against her following a complaint by television actor Dolly Bindra, who accused her of threats and sexual harassment.
