Mumbai:
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Monday travelled on a suburban local train, reminding the people of a similar journey by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi last year.
Raj travelled from suburban Dombivali to Dadar in central Mumbai (where he lives) on the train and blamed increasing number of "outsiders" for the rush.
The MNS chief said he was not aping Rahul Gandhi. The Dombivali-Dadar road was very bad, and people prefer trains, he said.
"This is not the first time I am travelling by train. I used to take trains during my college days some 25 years ago," Raj told reporters.
"But now the crowd is increasing like anything, and the outsiders coming to the city are responsible for this burden on the infrastructure," he said.
Raj was in Dombivali to meet the party corporators who got elected in the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation elections three months ago.
Rahul Gandhi had taken the people and the media by surprise when he travelled in the general compartment of a local train while in Mumbai last February.
