Sheena Bora, who was allegedly murdered by her mother Indrani Mukerjea
Mumbai:
Three months after Indrani Mukerjea's arrest for the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, investigators have disclosed a possible motive.
The CBI's charge-sheet reveals that mother and daughter fought over Sheena's relationship with her step-brother Rahul Mukerjea, the son of Indrani's husband Peter Mukerjea, the media tycoon who yesterday became the fourth person to be arrested in the case.
The investigating agency is also investigating allegations a financial dispute was at the heart of the case, especially a transaction that involved Rs 1,300 crore.
In 2010, the CBI says, Indrani sold off a South Delhi apartment she had gifted her daughter after learning of her affair with Rahul.
Indrani sold the flat at Rs 1.10 crore to "pressure her to call off the relationship", the charge-sheet alleges.
Sheena allegedly demanded a flat in Mumbai and blackmailed Indrani with threats to expose documents that proved that she was her daughter - and not younger sister as she had claimed to the world.
The CBI has reportedly seized these documents from Rahul Mukerjea, who was engaged to Sheena when she was murdered.
The charge-sheet says Indrani also used her son Mekhail to pressure his sister saying she would be denied any share in their property in Guwahati, Indrani's hometown.
Investigators say Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna got involved in the murder plan because with Sheena out of the way, all the property would go to Vidhie, his daughter with Indrani.
Sanjeev Khanna, a businessman, and Indrani's driver Shyam Rai have also been in jail since August.
