Salman Khan Hit-And-Run Case: Judge to Continue Dictating Order Today

In May this year the actor was convicted for all charges against him by a Mumbai Sessions Court and given a prison sentence as well.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday will continue to dictate its order in the 2002 hit and run case involving actor Salman Khan. The actor has appealed against his conviction by a Mumbai Sessions Court.

In May this year, the 49-year-old superstar was convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder amongst other charges. The Bombay High Court and the court has suspended his sentence.

While dictating its order on Monday and Tuesday, the court questioned the quality of evidence brought by the prosecution against the actor.

The court also questioned the manner in which the probe into the case was conducted especially the alcohol test to determine whether the actor was driving under the influence of alcohol or not. The expertise of certain witnesses has also been questioned by the court.

However the court is yet to decide on whether Salman Khan is guilty or not and whether his conviction should be upheld or not.

In May this year the actor was convicted for all charges against him by a Mumbai Sessions Court and given a prison sentence as well.

The court is likely to decide on how much to depend on Salman's bodyguard Ravindra Patil's statement and whether it was an accident or a case of irresponsible driving that led to the death of one person.

On September 28, 2002 a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by the actor lost control slammed into the pavement outside American Bakery in suburban Bandra killing one person and injuring four others.

Eye-witnesses had told the trial court that the actor was seen getting out of the driver's side of the car. In a last minute revelation, Salman's lawyers had argued that it was driver Ashok Singh, and not the actor who was driving that night. The driver had also testified in court and Salman Khan had pleaded innocence.
