Mumbai: Almost a year after Sandhya Singh, sister of Bollywood music composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit, was found dead near a marsh in Navi Mumbai, police on Monday arrested her son in connection with her murder.
Raghuveer Singh's arrest came after the Bombay High Court rejected his bail application. He will be produced in a court today.
Sandhya Singh, 50, went missing on December 13 last year. Her skeletal remains were found nearly two months later on the Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai. Cops believe she was killed on the very day she went missing. The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police was handed over the case.
Sources in Mumbai Police say they arrested Mr Singh after finding contradictions in his statement. He told cops that his mother had gone to the bank on the day she disappeared. But he told those employed at her house that she had gone to visit her brother.
Doubts further strengthened after he refused to undergo a narco-analysis test. The accused also did not answer summons from police and refused to be subjected to questioning. After his anticipatory bail was rejected in October, cops said say they had sufficient grounds for his custodial interrogation.
"Further investigation and custodial interrogation will reveal details in the case and hopefully lead to the conclusion", a top Mumbai Police officer said.
