Mumbai:
A 35-year-old school bus attendant was today sentenced to seven years in jail by a Mumbai court for molesting a four-year-old nursery student earlier this year. Ramesh Rajput was convicted on charges of sexual assault under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (PCSOA) 2012.
Ramesh Rajput had molested the girl on a bus in the Mumbai suburb of Juhu while children were being ferried home from school on January 15. At the time, the girl was the last child left on the bus. A female attendant, who was also present inside the bus, had confronted Rajput over the incident.
Later, the child later narrated the incident to her father who brought the matter to the notice of the school authorities.
The court also ordered Rajput to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.
This is the second conviction under PCSOA - which came into force in November last - designed to check rising incidents of sexual crimes against children.
