School seeks behaviour certificates from class 9, 10 students

Mumbai: Authorities of a school in suburban Andheri in Mumbai have sought behaviour certificates sworn in before a magistrate from the parents of class nine and ten students of the institution.

The bizarre demand is part of the process to develop good human resource and taking up the cause of keeping the best behaviour of students in and outside the school, director of Prime Academy school Chaula Joshi said.

"We want our students to follow certain discipline and we want them to be good human beings when they go out of the school," Joshi told PTI.

"Therefore, we wanted parents to take up and share responsibility for the good behaviour of their wards as these students are the future leaders of the country," she said.

The five-year-old school holds classes from nursery to SSC level.

"We are getting children from well-to-do families also and we have observed that due to undue freedom enjoyed by the students at home, they behave badly in the class and sometimes they are rude and disrespectful to teachers," Joshi said.

"Since we are equally worried about the students' behaviour, we thought parents also need to take responsibility as they are influenced by the liberties and freedom given at home," she said.

Joshi said rules in the school calender are not followed by the parents and some of the older students behave like rowdies in the school. Students from lower classes are also affected because of this, she added.

She said though some parents have approached the Forum for Fairness in Education and other bodies, "Many parents have wished me for the action and said they would fully cooperate."
